The Dream Houses for Children Home Page

Help make early childhood a time for dreaming

Welcome to the home page of the Dream House Project!
Dream Houses are not a commerical product.
With two pieces of plywood, six 2X4's and the free instruction from this Website,
you can build one too!!

A Dream House is a safe haven for young children to play, learn, and explore their imaginations. Begun in 1980, the goal of the Dream House Project has been to distribute freely the easy-to-follow plans for constructing a Dream House. In only a few hours, volunteers using low cost materials can construct a Dream House that will provide years of enjoyment in a home, kindergarten class, Head Start classroom, child care center, family day home, Sunday school, children's health care waiting room, or any other place where young children may play.

The project's mission is to provide detailed instructions with illustrations at each step in the process of building the Dream House.

All of the Dream Houses across the country have been built by volunteers donating their time.

The Dream House Project provides the blueprints; you provide the materials, which cost only about $50 and can be purchased at any home improvement store. Similar playhouses, made out of plastic, are sold in stores for ten times as much. How can you get the Dream House instructions? How are children enjoying their Dream Houses? What are the educational and therapeutic benefits for children? Who is responsible for this wonderful endeavor?
